Weird things you must know before travelling to the Netherlands

There are Very strange things that you never know about the Dutch and the Netherlands. I was told by a friend of mine who lives there and I was really surprised. I’m going to tell you about their unusual inhabitants and their weird costumes and habits. I hope that you enjoy and you take things seriously before you travel there in order not to be choked.

1) Geography: it is important to know about it first.

First of all, the majority of people confuse Holland with the Netherlands.  I add to your knowledge that Holland is just one section of the Netherlands, largely coastal region which includes Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Haarlem, Leiden, and The Hague. And the Dutch famous cities like Utrecht, Groningen, Maastricht, and Den Bosch are not in Holland.

2) Food habits :

In contrast with many other countries, The Dutch only have one hot meal a day. When you visit a native there, be sure that you will be asked if you had already had your hot meal. If yes, then you will have only a cold snack or a small cold sandwich.

3) Language: special accent:

The Dutch love speaking English in their special ways. They have a special accent by which they pronounce English. For example, the word “idea” they insist to pronounce with only 2 syllabus like this:” idée”. And if you correct them, they will resist to pronounce it with 3 syllabus. So be ready to hear English in a very special way and don’t try to correct them. Put into consideration their accented English and imagine how it would be heard.

4) Weather:

The rain drenches the country all the year. But the Dutch never use umbrellas. They only prefer to wear raincoats and rain suits. Put in your mind that is sometimes very windy and you could find difficulty to walk. They don’t care if they get wet. So, be ready to get wet there and don’t try to use umbrella because the wind would break it down.
